Microsoft Academic Volume Licensing

Educational establishments are entitled to simple yet flexible volume-based pricing through the Academic Volume Licensing program.

Microsoft offer education customers the option of both subscription and transactional licensing.

Through the subscription licensing programs, Campus Agreement and School Agreement, they have the right to run a selection of products, and any upgrades or downgrades of those products, throughout their one or three year licensed period. Even if the number of computers or users grows, they remain fully licensed for the term. You can also license students for use of selected products on a personally-owned computer or an institution-owned computer checked out to a student for the school year. Plus, they automatically receive the benefits of Software Assurance Membership.

With the transactional licensing program Academic Open License, you can acquire perpetual licenses (that is, they own the licenses), while eliminating the costs and packaging of retail software. They also have the option of enrolling their licenses in Software Assurance, which entitles them to product upgrades that release during the agreement term, eLearning courses, and more.
